Caregiving

Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a Medicaid program in Indiana that allows eligible individuals to receive care from someone they already live with—usually a family member or close friend. That caregiver is paid a tax-free daily stipend to provide non-medical assistance at home. This can include:

  • Personal hygiene support

  • Meal preparation and grocery shopping

  • Medication reminders

  • Light housekeeping

  • Companionship and supervision

The stipend amount depends on the level of care needed, and all payments are managed through an authorized agency—like the Coop.

Our Coop pays more than other agencies. Find out more.

If you already live with the person you care for, and they have a qualifying Medicaid waiver, SFC might be a fit for your family.

We pay more than our competitors

If you’re caring for a loved one at home, Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) may allow you to receive a non-taxable daily stipend for the support you’re already providing.

At Hoosier Caregiving Cooperative, we ensure caregivers receive at least 80% of the daily rate paid by Indiana’s Medicaid waiver program. That means caregivers can expect to earn at least:

  • $62/day at Level 1 (minimum yearly amount: $22,630)

  • $79/day at Level 2 (minimum yearly amount: $28,835)

  • $105/day at Level 3 (minimum yearly amount: $38,325)

Actual pay may be higher. The amount depends on the care level your loved one qualifies for, which is determined during the enrollment process.

The Cooperative Difference

We’re not a traditional agency.
We’re a worker cooperative.

Everyone you interact with—every member of our staff—is an equal owner in our business.

This changes everything:

  • Higher standards, enduring relationships.
Our worker-owners are here for the long haul. You’ll see familiar faces, hear familiar voices, and build relationships with people who are committed to providing consistent, respectful care—not just showing up for a shift.

  • Better support for caregivers.
We don’t just process payments—we equip family caregivers with coaching, planning tools, and backup options. Our team is motivated to provide real support, because we’re building this together.

  • Higher pay for all.
Most agencies keep a large share of the Medicaid waiver and pay their staff poverty wages. As a cooperative, we keep overhead low, pay all our staff dignified wages, and pass more of the funding through to caregivers.
